Seems that price may not be a valid argument for a reason why gw beats out wow.. or vice versa.
I think that with the price thing here, GW definitely does beat Wow. What you're paying for GW is what you'd pay for any normal game. However the game still gets updated afterwards, so you get that added bonus. Wow, on the other hand, you pay $14.99 (American, which for me is like $19 Australian or so. Don't know what the current exchange rate at the moment is) for the standard monthly payment. Not only that, but before you start paying monthly fees, you have to buy the game ($19.99, or around $25 Australian. So after six months, you've payed $60 Australian for the standard version of GW, or you pay a total of $120, or around $96 American. (one month free for purchasing the game). Double the money for a lesser game (my opinion, formulated from what I've heard from friends, who do like wow).

The reason I like GW is because of the rich storyline. I'm not much of a PvPer, though I might attempt to get the titles some day. From what I can tell, Wow doesn't have much of a storyline. I've tried to find one on the site, and it just takes me to a history of the entire Warcraft series. My friends don't talk about playing the storyline, so maybe it's just they prefer not to, but at the moment I'm skeptical at best.

Now, the lack of any apparent storyline makes me think of runescape, but with a fee. I used to play runescape, and got bored when they stopped making changes to the free version. I refuse to pay for a boring game like that. Maybe one day soon I'll get the free trial of Wow, and maybe I'll be proved wrong.

Finally, we come to one of the lesser reasons I don't think Wow is anywhere near the standards set by GW. GW is such a beautiful game. Even on my crappy laptop graphics card the game looks great. I love the scenery of GW. I love the way that the desolation and the desert, and even post searing ascalon to an extent, just has this great, beautiful scenery. I was blown away when I first saw the full cycle of the intro screen introduced with Nightfall. Wow just looks like a badly drawn cartoon. It looks more blocky than FF7 (okay, maybe that's going a bit too far, but you have to admit that it's nowhere near as smooth and beautiful as GW. And those FF fans out there, don't get me wrong. I loved FF7 for the story, which is the most important thing) The fact that Wow also has all these races just makes me laugh. I saw a screenshot of the different races playing together, and I've seen my friends playing the game, and it's just hilarious to see all the variations of blocks.

So, no, I don't believe Wow will ever replace GW. I'm sure there's a large portion of gamers out there that would agree with at least some of the points I made. The point is that people look in games for different things. I like a storyline I can get immersed in, whereas others just like to go around and obliterate everything in their path (I like to do that to an extent as well). It all really comes down to your opinion and what you prefer.

PS Before anyone flames me for not having a valid opinion because I haven't played both, I have watched my friends play the game, and heard their praise, and have read up on the game from the official site. I've seen screenshots and read reviews. So I don't have any first hand experience, but from what I have gathered, Wow is not a game I would like, and my points in this post relate to what I look for in a game. I can't talk about what anyone else looks for, since everyone has different tastes.

Yeah GW looks better and has a better storyline. But you need too much money to complete the titles after you beat the game (only thing to do other than quit because I'm not PvPing) and it gets to repetitive if you have too many characters.

While Guild Wars might not ever fall to World of Warcraft, I certainly think it won't last as long. Now what I mean by that is, it won't last as long for a single player, as WoW or some other game might. Say I've played Morrowind for 3 years, well I've played Guild Wars for almost 2 and that's dwindling more and more, because there's just not much left to do that I can afford. I'm sure Guild Wars will be around for a while, but for the single person, I don't think it'll last that long..at least not majority wise.

But all Anet has to do is hit that impressive skill level they have and make the game great again.

Agreed, everytime I come back to GW it seems that the only additions to the game are more and more titles which 9 times out of 10 means wasting money and spending hours in an outpost or going AFK for a whole weekend.

I actually don't mind doing that, I have fun chest running, and getting the titles themselves. Just the money factor, something I don't have and don't really want to make by this new farming anymore, I'm just so bored of it from doing it in the past I inch along and by the time I'll finish any current titles I'll be in my 30s. I can barely bring myself to do one Lightbringer run anymore, and I only did that 5 times.

The Sweet Tooth title, costs 200k (if you use bean cakes which as far as I know is the only thing available non event wise in game) to get the first tier, and 2 million gold to get the second. Plus a lot of clicks. (had a friend use an auto clicker to click for him haha).

Why does it cost 2 million gold? I don't know any sort of candy that should be above 50g. Granted it gives you 2 points, costs 400g per bean cake. I think Anet should add another candy that only costs 50-100g and gives a point. But I suppose that's what the festivals are for. Meh it's a moot point arguing titles anyway.

Just a tip: Mandragor Root Cake. All you gotta do is farm Mandragor for the collectible item, turn in 3 for the cake that nets you one point. The only way to really farm alcohol is to do all the quests in either Istan or Shing Jea and trade in all the commendations/credits, then make a new character and do it all over. So Sweet Tooth will end up a little cheaper/esier to get in the long run.

I don't mind the effort you have to put into the titles. They're there to show that you have put the effort in (or have an incredibly large amount of money). For instance, at the moment I'm going for Legendary defender of ascalon. It's probably one of the biggest grind titles you can get. But being able to go afk while deathleveling monsters is great. It's like a break from the game, so once I actually get to play with my new ranger, I'll be all refreshed, and hopefully can finish all three campaigns before the next one comes out.

But yeah, I only play one or two characters. I had an ele, got him up to the desert and then started playing cantha with an assassin. Almost finished factions with her and then realised that I hate the assassin profession, and deleted her to use the name again. I made a Dervish to play nightfall, and do like her a lot, but for some reason I just can't bring myself to play through the Realm of Torment with her. I don't know why.

So I don't really have a problem with this whole replayability thing. I prefer to focus on one character at a time, or have one main character and a couple on the side that i play occasionally for variation.

In that tip you bring up another good point..

Most people say that guild wars is not a grind type of game and wow is..

But i say they are almost equal in grind..

Hear me out:

To progress in wow you must level.. this is true.

But untill level 20 in guild wars you must also level.

So up untill level 20 these to games share the same concept.

Now some people say that guild wars has no grind because at level 20 everyone is the same..

But the problem with that is.. yes there is no more grind in guild wars after that.. If you have absolutly no goals for the game at all..

But if you want a title you will need to farm.. ALOT

so if guild wars is to say interesting once you reach level 20 and complete the story.. you will defiantly need to grind out some titles or points.. or quests.. or something that is absolutely the same grind that wow has.. its just different types of grind.

Say for example getting skill points on your character for the skill hunter title..

or sitting in town for 10 days getting a drunkard title..

Sure the grind in guild wars is different but it is definatly grind..

Some will say that grind in guild wars is an option.. yes your right it is... either grind or do nothing....

oh my god.. that is the absolute same thing as wow.. but in wow you actually get something more than a stupid title out of it.

and yes it is possible to spend months and months playing the same storyline in guild wars over and over again.. but that in itself is grind.

Here is how i see these to comparing.

First guild wars:

-------------leveling/questing--------/

--------questing after lvl 20----------/

------------------------------------------Farming for items and better armor-------------------------------------------

PVP(if interested)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guild wars after updates:

-------------leveling/questing--------/

--------questing after lvl 20----------/

Farming (why farm when prices are so low?)

PVP--------------------------------------------------------(If interested)

Rinse and repeat over and over again...........

WOW:

----------------------leveling-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------Questing---------------------------------------

Farming-------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's not entirely true, as (most of us) do try to be fair and impartial (I think), but in cases like this, when a subject has been beaten to death repeatedly and constantly raised by some crazy-ass Necromancer who also happens to be spamming Jagged Bones on it while pumping it with Pre-Nerf Verata's Sacrifice and nearly saccing himself to death trying to keep it up with Blood of the Master when it has -20 health regeneration...

Yeah, we can pretty much do whatever the hell we want.

For me it was simple...I had never played an MMO or CORPG and I was looking at GW and WoW...the one cost me 40 Euro's and the other 45 Euro's and a monthly fee...So I tried GW and I liked it. Then I had friends who were playing WoW so I took a look...the graphics were an instant turn off...too cartoonish for my tastes.

And yes if you buy 1-2 expansion a year it adds up to about 80 Euro's and for WoW I have to pay about 144 Euro's a year and you have to buy the game and expansions. That makes WoW about twice as expensive...I'm not interested no matter how fun the game play might be. I set my own limits regardless of what others may think is or isn't a fair price. Since it's me and my wife playing we refuse to pay 300 Euro's a year just so we can play that one game.

I am sure WoW is a good game and I know GW is a good game. You can compare it all you want but they are not the same type of game and they have a different set up altogether.

It's hard to compare a game like Guild Wars and a game like World of Warcraft. I've played both, and they are too different from eachother. Totally different. Guild Wars vs World of Warcraft has been posted alot on these forums. I don't know why people still make threads like this, it's been shunned upon many times.
